Cambrie woke up this morning all excited for a cookout in the canyon. She started making a list of people to invite and planning our menu. Unfortunately it did not take long to realize that the weather was not on our side. About 3pm the rain let up. Realizing it could be just a short break, Jason talked the girls into a quick cookout in our backyard. They start packing up food and getting warm clothes on to head outside.
I look at my watch and say, "It's 3pm, not exactly dinner time." Jason's response: "We don't work on a clock around here. We work on a fun meter, and the fun meter says its time for a cookout!" Alrighty then, the fire is started the foods all ready. . . and down comes the rain. With the rain falling harder and harder, the girls were still undeterred. Jason brought out our big umbrella and we huddled under it while we cooked trout, dogs and of course s'mores.
Cambrie just loved it. She kept saying over and over, "This is the best cookout ever!" It was great to see the kids having so much fun. It was great to learn that sitting in the rain can be magical. I'm sure it would have been nice to have a great sunny Memorial Day, but I'm also sure we'll never forget our cookout in the rain.
And when it rains on your parade look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow. -Jerry Chin

I love the rain...like you said there is just something "magical" that can happen in the rain. I am so glad that you made the most of it. It was a little bit of a bummer weekend for us not being able to spend it all in the sun and dirt. Love your quote! Shelly you are such a cute mom. We need to run on the fun meter at our house just a bit more...sometimes I am just too practical-definently one thing I hate about myself!
I love it! Count us in for the next sunny evening...we are dying to get in the hills for a cookout, also! Way to make do with the weather we were dished...such fun memories.
Ok, and the shopping is unreal! I am so jealous! Jealous that you were actually allowed to go into a store, and even more jealous of what the "bomb shelter" must look like now! Way to go. ;)
